The Certosa di Pavia, one of Italy’s most stunning Renaissance monuments, has updated its visiting policies starting January 2nd, 2026.
Following the departure of the Cistercian monks, the complex has introduced extended hours and a new ticketing system to improve the visitor experience.
If you are planning a day trip from Milan or Pavia, here is everything you need to know about the new schedule, prices, and entry requirements.
New Opening Hours, no more Lunch Break
The most significant change is the introduction of continuous opening hours. Previously, the monastery closed for a long break during midday. Now, visitors can enjoy the complex throughout the day.
-
Days: Tuesday to Sunday (Closed on Mondays).
-
Hours: 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM (Continuous).
This extended window allows more flexibility for tourists, making it easier to include the Certosa in a wider tour of the Lombardy region.
Ticket Prices and Annual Pass
To support the maintenance of this historic site, an entry fee has been introduced:
-
Single Entry Ticket: €10.
-
Annual Pass: €20 (Unlimited entries for one year).
The annual pass is an excellent option for photography enthusiasts or locals who wish to visit the cloisters multiple times throughout the seasons.
How to buy Tickets
Tickets can be purchased directly at the site.
New digital totems have been installed at the entrance, allowing for quick and easy payment via card or contactless methods. Currently, these totems are the primary way to secure your entry on-site.
Travel Tips for Visitors
-
How to get there: You can reach the monument by train from Milan or Pavia (get off at “Certosa di Pavia” station on the S13 line) or by car via the SP80.
-
Dress Code: As the Certosa remains a consecrated site, modest dress is required (shoulders and knees covered).
-
Parking: There is a large pay-and-display parking lot located 500 meters from the monastery, open 24/7.
- Motorhome Area: The site also features a dedicated Camper Area (partially shaded) with approximately 50 spots on a gravel surface. It includes essential facilities such as a camper service station, electricity hookups, covered picnic tables, and restrooms. Daytime parking is subject to a fee.
With these new hours and the convenient €10 entry fee, visiting the Certosa di Pavia is now more accessible than ever for international travelers.
